MALAYSIA – With increased demand from MNCs in Asia, flexible packaging converter Daibochi Plastic and Packaging Industry Bhd is confident of its growing prospects for the sector in the region.

According to the Malaysian company’s managing director Thomas Lim, Daibochi sees tremendous potential in the regional food and beverage market with MNC manufacturers increasingly sourcing their flexible packaging needs from Asia.

“In recent months, we have witnessed an uptrend in the frequency of visits and requests for quotations from non-Asian MNCs, as the continent typically enjoys a lower cost of production,” Lim said.

Because the company has developed a track record in meeting the stringent food safety requirements of regional MNC customers, Lim believes that this has resulted in the F&B sector being Daibochi’s stronghold customer segment.

The company provides flexible packaging to Nestle, Kraft, PepsiCo and other major multinational companies in the F&B and FMCG sectors.

Moving forward, Lim explained that Daibochi is also exploring other business opportunities, particularly in the pharmaceutical and electronics packaging sector.

“Since the first quarter of this year, Daibochi has commenced the supply of medical glove packaging, albeit on a small scale,” he commented.

“At the same time, we are also undergoing continual testing and certification for our electronics packaging overseas.”

Established in 1972 and publicly listed on the Malaysian Stock Exchange since 1990, the Malacca-headquartered Daibochi provides high barrier, laminated and multilayer packaging solutions for many applications, including food, beverage, FMCGs, pharmaceutical and medical, and electronics.
